My November 4, 2008 was definitely one to remember. The line was a mile long at my poll and at polls all over the U.S. I personally went to my poll at 7 am and had to leave, go home and get dressed and come back because the line was sooo long. Even when I returned, I still stood in line for 2 hours to vote for MY choice President Barack Obama! The first African-American President this country has ever seen! People were so peaceful and patient while waiting for their turn to vote. Perfect strangers black and white, young and old conversed casually while waiting in line about the great moment approaching us. I even witnessed an elderly black couple crying as they were leaving the voting booth. What a miracle it must have been for them to witness such an occasion after living in the civil rights era. I was thrilled to have participated in such a historic election. This is definitely a story that I plan to share with my future grandchildren. I don't know about you, but I'll never, EVER forget it. Share your November 4th experiences with us!
My November 4th experience was one to remember. I stood in line for three and half hours with my four year old and twelve year old. You know that wasn't nice you had one constantly saying she was hungry and the oldest seem to not run out of breath. But after last night seeing that dream come true for me, I have been waiting for this day ever since Jesse Jackson did not get the nod for the democratic front man in 84. This day is a sweet day for me, because I have had that anger in my heart for a long time, but it was swept away with the tears of pride I felt when they announced for the first time in history a Black family will enter the white house not as tourist but as occupants. He has a long road ahead of him, so we need to pray that God will lead him in the direction like he did King Solomon. Who was truly a king who loved his people.
Recently, I've been approaching highway driving a little differently. I look for opportunities to help another motorist out. I try to be a bit more aware of a turn signal that I can respond to rather than driving in the zone. What would happen if we all approached highway driving with the focus on helping each other arrive safely at our destinations? What if it were a team effort?
