I absolutely think that the "elitest" comment was definitly a way to call minorities Niggas. Bottom line is, how dare you have a level of education and succes as good or greater then mine. If they can paint a picture that b/c you made a choice to get a degree and are successful that this is frowned upon. You will never hear our counterparts saying that to thier own. It's just another way to create a microinequity to keep us two steps behind.
Both of you are so right. One of my co-workers (a sista) is now a principal of a junior high school. Her white co-workers are giving her fits. Would they treat her that way if she was white? I don't think so. Tamaka, I also agree with your statement that "african americans buy into it." You know, sometimes we are our own worst enemies. It's really sad when you think about it. I just hope Senator Obama wins fair and square! Meaning, no recounts!!!!
Recently, I've been approaching highway driving a little differently. I look for opportunities to help another motorist out. I try to be a bit more aware of a turn signal that I can respond to rather than driving in the zone. What would happen if we all approached highway driving with the focus on helping each other arrive safely at our destinations? What if it were a team effort?
Are you developing Rising Stars in your business or are they just Good-Luck-with-Getting-Your-Order-Right trainees? Are you laying out what you are expecting them to become? How do you set the stage for new employees, new contractors to become stars in your business?
