Larry Belcher passed today after a long fight with cancer. He was a loving Father, a devoted husband, a child that didn't give his parents alot of trouble, a great brother and an even better friend.
My relationship with Larry and the other Belcher Brothers is quite unique. We attended the same elementary school, middle school, high school and college. His mother was my 5th and 6th grade teacher. I didn't see Larry, Darold or TJ as friends, but more like cousins. LA you will be sorely missed. Heaven just gained a soldier and the world just lost a real good guy.
I did not know Larry personally but I know Darold. Darold and I served in the same Army Reserve Unit and he spoke very highly of his family. He spoke very often of Larry and I know that he looked up to him for guidance and strength. He often spoke of how close they were and how great of a brother, father, friend and Soldier he was. Darold really loves his brother and I know that he will truly be missed.
Recently, I've been approaching highway driving a little differently. I look for opportunities to help another motorist out. I try to be a bit more aware of a turn signal that I can respond to rather than driving in the zone. What would happen if we all approached highway driving with the focus on helping each other arrive safely at our destinations? What if it were a team effort?
