Here is an analogy.

Two little league football teams take the field for a game one Saturday. Both groups of kids have talent to play the sport effectively but one group is better organized and has labored more on the basics. During the game the better team totally destroys the other and wins by 40 points. After the game however the losing team is told that they didn’t lose because they are all winners. Each child is presented with a winning trophy and other accolades even though there was only one winning team.

I am of the opinion that this method of rewarding children for non-accomplishment is a detriment to a child’s personal growth. I feel this way because that child will one day become an adult and will expect the same rewards in an adult world even though he or she has done nothing to earn such rewards.

He or she will also react in a negative manner as an adult when given critical direction or redirection in reference to something that he or she is doing wrong. Instead of seeking improvement, such individuals will exhibit anger and direct it towards the person being critical of their performance. A perfect opportunity of self-reflection is lost due to having skin that is too thin. A perfect opportunity for positive growth is also lost for that individual because they have learned to erect a wall of anger between themselves and those who may have the propensity to be critical.

This is why I have vowed never to say anything of a critical nature towards future performances of the MMW. This is a different era and a different time. New generations are of a different mindset so any such comments coming from members from my era will fall on deaf ears plus such comments are unwanted, unappreciated and perceived as something negative instead of potentially instructive in nature. Stay cool, school.

Thanks for the shout out Flipper!! I had a great time this weekend seeing everyone that came out. With a little more organization and participation there are a lot of things we can do for the program.
Shout out to the S/D's for the show of unity and proactive thinking. Way to go!
Im over here laughin my butt off reading the Horsemen posts!!! Keep it coming, I need to laugh more often, that stuff is classic. Some of you are looking real dumb responding to them too.LOL!!
Classic was good for the band this year. I am old school in my judgement of MARCHING bands. Meaning that if you dont win halftime, then you aint done nothing, so hush yo mouth. The MMW took the halftime show hands down, they did what a MARCHING BAND is supposed to do, so they get the W as far as i'm concerned. Even walking onto the field couldnt stop Bama States funeral. No better decision than to do Thriller at the classic, on Halloween!!! Bama State must be dumber than rocks not to think of it.LOL!!

Much love to all of the people that had anything to do with the tailgate at homecoming and the magic city classic. i have had so much fun with the family during both weekends. Marlon, terry, lovejoy, rod, kp, frank, mozart, james crumb, snake, it takes all of you guys plus people that are working behind the scene that we dont know to pull of what we do and that is great, good job guys. much love to the S/D's for the check that went to the band. YOOOOOOO SOAST!!!!!!!!!!!. Now this shows that we can work as a team, let us now take this to the next level, one band, one sound, i know that we can do this. let us take what we have and build from there, olive branches are being thrown in every direction, and that is good, love you guys. i did not see the show but i have heard good and bad, but overall it was more good, The crowd seemed to enjoy it, that's always important. Bragging rights 'til next year. Great Job MMW!

Success is a Team Sport Posted By : Cheryl E. Cook

Recently, I've been approaching highway driving a little differently. I look for opportunities to help another motorist out. I try to be a bit more aware of a turn signal that I can respond to rather than driving in the zone. What would happen if we all approached highway driving with the focus on helping each other arrive safely at our destinations? What if it were a team effort?
