A&M Board of Trustees and Presidential Mess- Tell me What You Think

I am sure that you all have read about all of the negative press that our Beloved University is receiving. The fact that the SACS Board of accreditation is even considering placing our University on probation should be enough to sober us up! They can strip us of Accreditation, which means that the SACS Board could place us on a lengthier probation, or worse, "Permanently" strip us of Academic Accreditation (The Dealth Penalty.)!

It is time for us to take our Leadership seriously. I alone remember going through too many Presidents from 1987-1992.. I went through Covington, Marbury, Henson, and (Allen Keys), in 5 years! This is Absurd! We are being viewed by the World as a University who cannot make sound Leadership, Financial and Fiscal decisions... Our reputation will soon be a laughing stock if we don't raise up and say enough!...

We need a new President. A proven President who is known for their Leadership ability, as well as Financial Marketing expertise. We may need to go to a President\Vice -President\Financial Manager type of setup where the Financial Manager is in charge of our Accounting/Marketing Department . We must take past leaders and Professors off our payroll who no longer provide services for us. A few years ago, we had a certain individual who used to be employed by the University who was still making $92,000 per year... And for what?

We need a University President and a Board of Trustees who has a strong President who will "Unite" our Board and stop "Dividing" it. I am tired of Governor Riley having to appoint our University and Board of Trustee Presidents. We can do this ourselves! If we don't WAKE UP, Alabama A&M University as we know it will be gone.. They have been trying to merge us with UAH and Auburn for the longest anyway! You all know this...

We need a strong, Fierce, President who will make sound and STERN decisions that we all may not like at times, but are made with the Universit's main interest at heart. This Leadership may tick off some "True Bulldogs". Be that as it may, our new President cannot be afraid to ruffle a few feathers!.. I am not saying come in exactly as Jennings did, and freeze all spending, cutting the Athletic fund down to the bone, before seeing how much money we have and where our problems lie. If someone is not DOING THE JOB, CLEAN HOUSE! The Cleaning out or(firing) process needs to be implemented graually, and only until our CEO is sure this person has not been dealing in a business-like manner. They should be released in no less than a 3 to 6 month period, but not until an adequate replacement is found. This Finanacial Accounting and Balacne process needs to be taken care of as soon as the President is hired, which needs to be quickly.

Until we get our Board together, we need to authorize our current President to hire a firm who will find our next"Great President". The current Board members ned to come on "BOARD", organize a quorum, and let the hiring Firm do it's job.

The new President needs to be (FIRMLY) screened. We do not want a President with NEGATIVE BAGGAGE, who will only wind up taking us down! This new President must be squeaky clean, and must be a proven Leader. The new President needs to look at all of our Departments and see where we are wasting and under-utilizing our money!

We need a President who stresses Academics first, however, who understands that Football and Basketball make big money for our University, and we need a President who realizes the Gloried History that our Athletic Department has, and potential that we have to be Champions in all Sports! Football and Basketball bring theri fair share of Financial Revenue for our University.
(Ask Alabama and Auburn). Our President needs to make sure that our Coaches recruit the best players available so that we are competitive outside as well as inside our conference.

Our University makes Big Money when our Football and Basketball Teams play in "Classics" and against some of the better Division ! Athletic Teams across the Nation! We have had recent Presidents who have come in and crippled our spending on Athletics, not allowing us to compete fairly with the "Grambling's "and "Hampton's" of the College Football World.

The first thing that needs to be done is to straighten out our Board of Trustees! If our Board of Trustees is sound, we will choose GREAT PRESIDENTS... IF I am not mistaken, they have only met one time in this past year, and that was to vote out Dr. Jennings! The BOT(Board of Trustees), must "UNITE" and come together, and learn to handle our problems in-house without involving other Political Machines. We don't need one person with all of the power... The power should be evenly distributed amongst the board members. It is up to the Board President to provide the Board with Leadership Ability and Financial Savvy, and to make sound Business decisions. It is the Board President's job to make decisions that will benefit our University, it's Alumni and supporters. Let's get a Board President and board memebers who are in it for the long haul... One famous Board member from another major University is stepping down from his University board after serving over 25 years! (Booby Lowder), I don't care what anyone says, If a board member is doing a good job,and what is in the best interest for A&M, then they should stay as long as they are productive and useful to our University, it's Alumni, Students and supporters.

Our Board needs to modernize and add TWO members who can Champion two Areas.. They need to be people who represent our Alumni, Students and supporters.. One who can seerve as a "Academic" Liason, a person who is an A&M Great, or they can be from the general publi., The other new appointee would represent our Athletic Department. They should be a former Athlete and Graduate of A&M, who is know for bein g a people person and a strong Business/Political Leader. We are behind, as most High Schools and Universities now have a person on the Board who represents the Athletic Department. Again, I stress Academics first, but we must put money into the Departments that generate revenue for our University. If we do this, then the non-revenue sports can produce Championship Teams and results as well.

Here is a Potential Pool of Candidates to serve as (Board members/and or Board of Trustee President):

Notice their accomplishments and organizations:

Success is a Team Sport Posted By : Cheryl E. Cook

Recently, I've been approaching highway driving a little differently. I look for opportunities to help another motorist out. I try to be a bit more aware of a turn signal that I can respond to rather than driving in the zone. What would happen if we all approached highway driving with the focus on helping each other arrive safely at our destinations? What if it were a team effort?
